Thalia Vasiliou

Short bio

Thalia Vasiliou was born in Nicosia in 1996. She lives and works in Cyprus.  She studied Fine Arts with a focus in printmaking, at the Athens School of Fine Arts (2014-2021), mentored by M. Arfaras. During this time, she studied drawing, painting and printmaking techniques, and she is currently primarily focusing on monotypic experimentations.

Description of general work / practice

Through the practice of monotype, Thalia Vasiliou investigates the relation between the artistic materials and their imprint. With series of prints that deal with familiar themes as well as abstract, experimental compositions, the artist creates works in the fragments of the memory of the viewer. Monotype is a process that balances between painting and printmaking, allowing experimentation and variation. The unexpected results in the compositions arise from the lack of control during printing with the fluidity of the ink – or the absence of it – drawing the content.
